Rest in Peace Steve Jobs
-
As many know, Steve Jobs passed away today after a long battle with Pancreatic Cancer at the age of 56.
I would like to discuss with you all how he affected you. Even if you're not an Apple fan, his innovations have affected many designers and developers. Personally, I am not an Apple fan, but I still respect him as a visionary. Learning how Jobs and Wozniak built Apple from only a dream was an inspiring story for me to achieve big things.
You can pay your respects to Steve at rememberingsteve@apple.com -
I've always had an appreciation for great design, but Apple (and Steve) showed me the impact that design could have on the world and in business. So many people I have dealt with, including clients, have gotten past the 'good enough' design mentality and want perfection because they see what Steve has done. In the 80s Apple had great designs and not many people followed. In the 90s when they were becoming extinct it is hard for me to think of any products that captured my imagination. I guess there simply wasn't a need to design something well back then because the competition was doing the same.
Then the iMac came out. Then the iPod. Then cooler laptops. Then the iPhone. Then the iPad. Now whole industries are trying to copy Apple and although it is humorous to see some of their attempts, Steve helped put design in the forefront. Without him we would probably still be stuck in a wasteland.
It doesn't matter if you like Steve or Apple. What he did was make the products you use better because everybody else saw the value in great design. -
Yeah, I don't think anybody can say that they weren't affected by Apple at all. Many of the things we use, including a graphical interface and means to interact with that have been influenced or invented by him. I believe Seth Godin said it best here.

Steve left a huge mark on me, and I think the world itself, too. Apple had amazing designs, and still do. He is an inspiration to keep pushing, and do what you want to do most for the best amount of success.
We will always be waiting for that "one more thing".
