It's probably more like the design company that GC hired ripped that other company's design. Bad situation.

That sucks big time, I hope it gets resolved.

I had to look at it a minute to spot the differences. The NCGolfer's switched their background to the one the Golf Channel uses so that non-designers can see the differences better. So for anyone looking, the Golf Channel's image is their own, it's not ripped "that" much.

I think the similarities are more easily noticeable if you're a designer who looks at blocks and pixels all day long. The original background was absolutely stolen, no doubt about that. The concept of the floating logo + leaderboard ad at the top was also stolen. The horizontal tabbed navigation was not stolen pixel for pixel, but the general concept is very similar. Other parts of the site are unique. In the overall scheme of site rip-offs, I'd say that it's definitely not the most egregious rip-off I've ever seen, nor is it in the Top 10, but it would still thoroughly piss me off if I was the designer.

Yeah, I was looking at the two in detail a short while ago and it's too close for my comfort level had I been the designer. Feels like an "inspired by" design that borrowed too much from the original.

There is inspiration, and there's rippoffs and this is over the border of ripp but it hasn't fallen off the cliff yet.

With different backgrounds I would find it hard to see similarities if I didn't have them side by side.

Yeah, had I not been looking at them side-by-side I probably wouldn't think rip, but it's definitely a little *too* inspired.

Ouch that is low. Wouldn't have seemed so bad had he not used the same background image.
