If you're a senior designer, then shame on you for asking someone to design your site for free (or almost free). You should know first hand how much work it takes to build a good site. You wouldn't ask a doctor to give you free treatment, a mechanic for free work, or an accountant to do your taxes for free would you? I could understand someone who isn't in the design industry asking for free design because they don't understand the time and work it takes and therefore don't realize the value. This is something intelligent designers are working to change, but there are people like you, and many others that work in the design industry, that think it's ok to work for free. That pisses me off and it devalues the design community.
You offer to give the designer a link in your footer as payment. You say that you're so busy that you can't design a quick layout for your blog/site. So if you're a designer by trade, yet you don't have the time to design a layout for your site, how much do you really care about the site? Sounds like this site is an afterthought for you, which brings me to the point....If you're so busy with your job where will you find the time to provide content for your blog on a regular basis that's compelling enough to build an audience? Basically that link in the footer holds zero value.
Be a designer and take pride in being a designer. Stop cheapening our trade by asking for (or doing) design for free.
