Yeah we use lightbox on images that have both a back and a front... he's looking for a way to zoom for details without loading a pop up.

Image zooming within a website? Help!

Design Community — Posted: Apr. 29, 2008  ...   Last By: RightOn @ 6 months ago

My boss contacted me last night wanting to include a feature similar to one he saw online @ David's Bridal into our website and I can't find anything decent enough to mimic it so far in my searches.

Here is an example...

What he's looking for is something like the photograph of the product, that allows you to zoom into the image to better see detailed areas.

I don't do Flash so that's out of the question and I'm not to find MooTools or extensive Javascripting EASY by all means.

Does anyone know of a WordPress plugin that will do this or a script I can include that will do something like this?

Thanks!

» These Guys' Web Design "Ripped" By THE GOLF CHANNEL.com  ...  Last Reply: 7 months ago by ldragon.

Yeah, I was looking at the two in detail a short while ago and it's too close for my comfort level had I been the designer. Feels like an "inspired by" design that borrowed too much from the original.

There is inspiration, and there's rippoffs and this is over the border of ripp but it hasn't fallen off the cliff yet.

With different backgrounds I would find it hard to see similarities if I didn't have them side by side.

Yeah, I have no problem with Geek... Nerd and Dork sound snotty and condescending.

I've been called worse ;)

Joe's plus, depending on the picture I'll convert it to LAB color and mess with the Lightness channel some.

I would say this is a man of many talents and media but he couldn't get far without the photography aspect to his work... Andy Goldsworthy. He stays as simple as he can and lets the work and his time speak for itself.

» The Chawlk-board header ;)  ...  Last Reply: 8 months ago by peroty.

I have updated the PSD I linked to to help out people by grouping the header elements into a layer above an artwork layer so you can see how it will look when uploaded.

Just design on the Artwork layer and turn off the 'Header Elements' layer before you save it.

Photoshop something to the sizes specified in the store, and upload it.

Nuthin much to it.

I'm planning on making a series of these with different stuff hanging, walking etc. all over the header.

For those who don't want to make up all the layers and such to make your own... here's my Source PSD.

The Chawlk-board header ;)

Design Community — Posted: Mar. 19, 2008  ...   Last By: peroty @ 8 months ago

Scrivs is standing behind me with a large wooden spoon, saying I'm gonna get a beat down so I'm gonna tell you how I did my Chawlk-Board header. ;)

I wanted something that looked like I had written all over my header, so I took a screenshot of my header and brought it into Photoshop.

I went on a stock image website (www.sxc.hu for the curious ones) and grabbed a chalkboard image. I pasted it on top of my screenshot and reduced the opacity of the chalkboard so I could see the elements in the live header.

I took the Brush Tool and my pressure sensitive pen and drew in some doodles and some arrows with a white brush on a layer above the chalkboard and then used a font I had laying around that looked like handwriting to fill in the notes.

Once I had all my "chalk drawings" to satisfaction I upped the opacity on the board, went in and duplicated a color channel and messed with the levels a bit to bring out the scratches and dust on the board. I made a selection from the dust and scratches and deleted out a portion of the chalk drawings to make them look like they were on the board.

Saved, then uploaded :) (actually since new functions of anything on 9rules and chawlk always seem to have something against me, Scrivs had to upload it but you get the point)

Now go out there and chalk up your boards!

How did you print that full size? I hit print and mine came out spanning 3 pieces of paper.

» Do you consider breasts as pornographic?  ...  Last Reply: 8 months ago by leliathomas.

Strip a human down to nothing and there's nothing pornographic about it, it's who we are under all our "garb". It's what makes us... US.

It's all about context, if a naked woman is simply a naked woman I see nothing wrong with it...

If that same woman is engaged in sexual activity or taking her "bodily display" to the next level then it has become "pornographic" in nature. I still have no problem with it though :)

Yeah I've been drooling over that new Cintiq... if I wasn't in the market for a new laptop that would be my next purchase.

» How Do You Get Used to a Wacom Tablet ?  ...  Last Reply: 8 months ago by ericastjohn.

practice... practice... practice...

Honestly, that's the only way to get used to it.

I wouldn't go so far as to say you should ONLY use the Pen as I find the pen is pretty crappy when relegating it to system operations... and it also depends on what you're doing in Photoshop as to which tool to use.

I do a lot of photo retouch so the Pen is a great asset... as is the optional airbrush.

I skipped all the heart chocolate box crap and since the wife buys into V-Day... I sent her a pajama-gram..

PJ's / a card / and a lavender sachet in a nice hat box...

I figure it's better to succumb to the "holiday" than it is to stand up for my objections and sleep on the couch. :)
